Appearance: 6’1 with unruly brown hair and green/blue eyes. He could stand to work out a little more and is thin but un toned.
Personality: A daydreamer and hopelessly positive, JD is the stereotypical ‘good friend’ weather he likes it or not. A normal guy, he works hard to stand for something and try to make a difference. This need, as well as the need to do something with himself as a response to his upbringing, has lead him to pursue a medical career at Sacred Heart Hospital and eventually become staff internist. He has a gentle bedside manner and easily makes friends, choosing to take the time to get to know a patient as a person rather than a case. This has it’s pros and cons but it shows that he genuinely cares. Although he is occasionally clumsy and seems to have a bad center of gravity, John is a competent doctor and has been described by Dr. Perry Cox [in canon] as "He cares. Probably cares too much, but he's definitely somebody you don't want to lose." His strong point is diagnosis, whereas he has difficulty with "Train Wreck Codes" (where a patient flat-lines, and several other problems all occur at once).
This being said, JD also has a number of strange personality quirks. The largest and most prominent one of these is daydreaming. At least twice a day, his over active mind will launch into a ‘what if’ situation usually spurred on by something someone close by has said in conversation. The often thinks too much but his daydreams happen in real time and he will stand still with his head tilted back and to the left for however long it is that he is fantasizing. On top of this, he knows almost nothing about politics, once [in canon] referring to Dick Cheney as the "bald assistant president who has all the heart attacks" nor does he know the difference between a Senator and a Congressman. He is also clueless about sports though notably his worst subject is geography, having confused New Zealand for New England, and Iraq with China. His favorite drink is an Appletini ("easy on the tini").

Once again, the relationship he was in ended once and for all with fellow doctor Kim Briggs and they split for good. Kim retained custody of their son Sam [Sam Perry Gilligan Doran. The stress and heartbreak was too much to take so JD decided to pack up and follow his long time pseudo role model Dr. Perry Cox, whom he has great admiration and respect for, to Russia for a chance to regroup in a smaller but equally interesting environment free of ex girl-somethings and insane janitors. If only he knew.
